*Pharynx- Tube like passage way for food, liquid, and air.
*Larynx- It’s the airway to which two pairs of horizontal folds of tissue.
*Trachea-It’s a tube about 20cm in length.
*Bronchi-It is 2 short tubes that carry air into your lungs.
*Alveoli-Tiny, thin-walled, grapelike clusters at the end of each bronchiole that are surrounded by capillaries; carbon dioxide and oxygen exchange takes place.
*Diaphragm-It’s a muscle beneath your lungs that contracts and relaxes to help move gases into and out of your lungs.
*Emphysema-A disease in which the alveoli in the lungs enlarge.
*Asthma-Shortness of breath, wheezing, or coughing can occur in a lung disorder.

Functions of the Respiratory System

- Breathing brings air into the lungs and removes waste gases.
- Cellular respiration converts oxygen and glucose to carbon dioxide, water, and energy.

Organs of the Respiratory System

- Air is carried into the lungs by bronchi.
- Bronchioles are smaler branches of bronchi, and at the ends of these are alveoli.

Diseases and Disorders of the Respiratory System

- Emphysema is a disease that causes the alveoli to enlarge.
- Lung cancer occurs when carcinogens cause an uncontrolled growth of cells.
